Coming from an artistic family, Dalouge spent 20 years of his career in theatre – producing, acting, stage managing and directing. But most children are not so lucky, so for the past decade, as CEO of the San Diego Youth Symphony, Dalouge has been committed to bringing music and arts education to children, and encourages all school districts to do the same.
Dalouge Smith is in his 10th season leading the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory. He’s transformed SDYS into a community instigator for restoring and strengthening music education in schools, and in 2010 began its first community music program inspired by Venezuela’s El Sistema. Dalouge has served as a national leader in the U.S. El Sistema movement since co-founding the National El Sistema Network in December 2010 and convening the first summit of El Sistema inspired programs in 2011.
