Kids Growing Through Music

The M. Adler Lindberg Family Preschool Scholarship Fund

Kids Growing Through Music — The M. Adler Lindberg Family Preschool Scholarship Fund supports the musical development and educational advancement of young children who participate with their families in San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory’s early childhood program, ChIMES (Childhood Introduction to Music Education, with Smiles). The fund was established by SDYS Board Member Marilyn Lindberg and is open to any donor who wishes to support it.

A $125 donation can help SDYS offer a family from low income or marginalized communities the opportunity to participate in a ChIMES program at a convenient time and location. A $2,500 donation underwrites one annual scholarship each year. SDYS has partnerships with several social service and family education providers across San Diego who help identify families eligible to participate. Donors may also specify a service organization with whom SDYS can partner. Please click here for a list of participating organizations.

ChIMES classes are designed to enhance child development while building healthy attachments between the child and caregiver through hands-on play with instruments, singing, movement, rhythm activities, percussion, and more. The interactive classes develop children’s musical, motor, and aural skills and help promote school readiness both academically and socially. The program is specifically designed to create pathways for children to graduate to ensemble-based programs for youth as they get older.
