SAN DIEGO, CA – May 14, 2020 – For nearly 75 years the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory has offered ensemble-based music education programs in the Casa del Prado in the heart of San Diego’s Balboa Park. This month, plans are being finalized for much-needed new office space that will expand this historic organization to ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. All ensemble programs will remain headquartered in the Casa del Prado office, without change or interruption to the programs’ scheduled weekend rehearsals.

“We had been searching for additional space to accommodate our growing team for many months,” commented Dr. Michael Remson, President and CEO of SDYS. “ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station is the perfect expansion location, giving SDYS a presence in San Diego’s other major arts campus.”

The timing for the expansion couldn’t be better as SDYS prepares for its 75th Anniversary season starting in September 2020. With all internal teams fully staffed, additional space was needed for the organization’s Development and Community Program teams. SDYS’ Conservatory team, which administers weekly rehearsals to more than 600 beginning to pre-professional music students, will continue to operate using the existing office and rehearsal space in Balboa Park.

“The NTC Foundation is very pleased to welcome the San Diego Youth Symphony to our creative, collaborative campus at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station,” commented Alan Ziter, Executive Director of the NTC Foundation. “Since opening in 2006, we’ve grown to be a home for over 90 San Diego arts, music, dance, and community-serving organizations within our 17 buildings. Having such a stalwart San Diego music organization as the Youth Symphony at the ARTS DISTRICT will provide new partnership opportunities with the other tenants and the community. We look forward to their success at the ARTS DISTRICT.”

Parents and families of SDYS students should continue to contact the Balboa Park office at 619.233.3232 with all questions and for program information. Stay tuned for more announcements, including news of a formal ribbon-cutting event to be scheduled.
