Are you looking for a creative outlet to express yourself? Join your peers for a class that will enhance your musical knowledge, where you can create, and share your original compositions!

Learn the basic building blocks of music by enrolling in the SDYS Music Theory Program!

Students will explore a variety of musical structures, further develop harmonic vocabulary, and expand their knowledge of various musical styles. Using the skills developed in Beginning Music Theory & Composition or equivalent experience, students will work individually and collaboratively to analyze contemporary and historical musical trends, discover diverse genres, and apply these skills to create and compose original works. Guest artists will join students in the final class of the semester to read and record students’ composed pieces.

This course is designed for intermediate to advanced ensemble players with an interest in music theory and composition. To enroll in this class students must either a) complete Beginning Theory & Composition class or b) receive instructor approval after submitting an original composition they have composed themselves.

Class is open to SDYS Showcase level students and non-SDYS students as well, so feel free to tell your friends!
