Established in 1945, San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory is the 6th oldest continuously operating youth symphony in the United States, serving close to 600 beginning through pre-professional student musicians annually in 13 full orchestras and large ensembles. Through SDYS’ flagship ensemble program in Balboa Park, its neighborhood engagement projects, and its early childhood music curriculum, SDYS is San Diego’s most comprehensive provider of ‘cradle through college’ music education programs and a national leader in innovative community engagement, serving thousands of young musicians and their families each year.

REGISTRATION for the 2021-2022 SEASON

Mid-season registration for the 2021-22 season is open through October 15!  There’s a place for any young musician, age 7 – 22, of any ability in our ensembles. We hope you’ll join us. Once closed, mid-season registration and audition opportunities will reopen in March, 2022.

Our "Fall Fun on the Farm" session of ChIMES - Early Childhood Music Education, With Smiles - is well underway and our Teaching Artists and families are having loads of fun dancing, singing, and creating rhythms about autumn leaves, farm animals, and harvest time. That also means that registration for our wildly popular holiday sessions is just around the corner! Thank you to all the SDYS students who have participated in the preliminary round of the Ovation level Concerto Competition, and congratulations to our seven finalists, in no particular order (but starting from upper left in the image): Debora Okhotina, cello; Justin Wu, cello; Erica Wang, flute; Anna Chong, flute; Hannah Lee, violin; Ellie Seohyun Lee, violin; Andrew Kang, clarinet. Honorable mention goes to Evelyn Nedelciuc, cello. Students will be competing for the opportunity to perform as a featured soloist backed by a large ensemble at a future concert date (details to come).

The live, in-person final will be held this Friday, October 15, at 6pm at University Christian Church in Hillcrest, and the public is welcome! Please see our website for additional details on our updated health and safety policy for both performers and attendees.

Provides our most advanced musicians in our flagship program with intensive, pre-professional musical training at the highest levels attainable in a youth orchestra program.
